Some of you may know but the club has been working on some improvements to the club crest recently, giving it a more modern look whilst retaining some original features and re-adding in the motto which appears to have been lost through time.
For those of you interested in your history and the tradition of the town and Goole RUFC, the armorial bearings were granted to the Corporation of Goole by the College of Arms in October, 1933. The following is the heraldic description, with an explanation:
Goole Coat of Arms
Shield - Or (gold) a lymphad sail set oars in action sable, flags flying to the dexter Gules - on a chief of the second three swans argent. (A black vessel of ancient type, red flags flying to left, on the topmost third part of the shield, black, are three silver swans)
Supporters - on either side a viking supporting in the exterior hand a spear proper.
Motto - Advance (This was previously used as the town's motto by the Urban District Council prior to the armorial bearings being granted to the Corporation of Goole),
The club was originally a Grammar School Old Boys club and used a variation of the town coat of arms as it's crest. The club continues it's strong links with the High School with rugby being very much on the curriculum again and even though the High School has had a multi million pound makeover, the Viking Ship still sits proudly over the old school.
The new crest will be used on all kit, web site and other media moving forward.
